A driver has been remanded for four days, until August 31, to assist in the investigation of a fatal accident involving an SPM candidate at the Melor traffic light junction last Tuesday.

The incident occurred at 6:35 pm, and the victim, Azri Anuwar, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Harian Metro, Kota Bharu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the 33-year-old driver of the Proton Saga FL was arrested at 10 am the day before yesterday.

He explained that the initial urine screening tested negative, and checks revealed no prior criminal record.

“The accident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987 and Section 307 of the Penal Code,” he said.

He added that the accident involved a motorcycle and three cars. Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the driver of the Proton Saga FL was heading straight from Pasir Puteh towards Kota Bharu.

At the same time, an SM Sport motorcycle ridden by the victim was traveling from Gunong towards Kota Bharu after the traffic light on his side turned green.

“However, the Proton Saga FL driver is believed to have been speeding and ran a red light before crashing into the left side of the victim’s motorcycle. The car is also believed to have hit the rear of a Toyota Vios driven by a woman in her 40s, coming from the same direction, before veering off and overturning onto the road divider,” he explained.
