It has been a couple of rainy weeks now, and hotpot is definitely one of the best comfort food that you can get to warm yourself up. You might want to be more alert when you’re out for hotpot because an unfortunate man in China discovered something no one should have found in their food.

On March 4, a man in Chongqing, China was just enjoying his hotpot dinner but his appetite was immediately turned off after he scooped up a WHOLE RAT! The hot temperature of the hotpot soup also “skinned” the rat, so that was a whole-skinned rat added to their dinner.

Feeling like throwing up? That was exactly what happened to the unfortunate man who discovered that pest inside his hotpot, as shared on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform.

The man thought it was a beef tripe, but let’s just say, we’re glad that he realised what it really was before feasting on it. It didn’t take long for the man to report the matter to the relevant department and authorities, but before that, the restaurant owner wanted to settle the matter privately.

Unfortunately, both parties couldn’t reach common ground, and when the authorities arrived, the restaurant owner was quick to put the blame on the customer.

“He told the authorities that we put the rat into the hotpot.”

That obviously angered the customer, so he decided NOT to pursue the matter privately and refused any form of compensation.

On the other hand, the restaurant owner claimed that they are working closely with authorities who are currently investigating the matter. They also told the Chinese media that they have been following all the rules and regulations.

From a rat casually feasting on chicken in a Mamak restaurant to a lizard in your rice, the possibilities of discovering bizarre “additional ingredients” in your food are endless and terrifying. Have you ever discovered anything disgusting in your food?
