A moment of rage landed a 53-year-old man in Indonesia behind bars after he assaulted his wife, leaving her badly bruised.

He did it out of jealousy

The man, identified as Mat Nasir, made headlines after assaulting his wife, Suriyani, out of anger and jealousy, according to Tribun Bekasi.

According to the Head of the Ogan Ilir Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Kasat Reskrim), AKP Mukhlis, the attack was sparked by the husband’s frustration over his wife’s frequent selfies on social media.

“The suspect became enraged because the victim kept posting numerous selfies on Facebook,” said Mukhlis.

At the time of the incident, his 51-year-old wife was sitting in their room using her phone when her husband walked in and demanded that she hand it over.

When Suryani refused, an argument broke out, and things quickly escalated as Mat Nasir forcefully grabbed the phone from her hand.

“A struggle over the phone broke out, and the suspect ended up beating the victim, leaving her with bruises and swelling on her face,” Mukhlis said.

Suryani’s screams for help alerted nearby neighbours, who heard the commotion and rushed her to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Mat Nasir was later arrested at his home on Saturday (1 November) and is currently under investigation.
