A hotel in the form of a Boeing-737-400 plane in the picturesque jungles of Pahang will be opening sometime in 2020.
According to Front Desk, the concept was thought up by a father-son duo, 31-year-old Kevin Young Thien Sheng and 61-year-old Young Yeong Long. It all began when Yeong Long purchased the aircraft from an airline. The plane reportedly exceeded its service period and was about to be disposed of.
Kevin was quoted as saying,
“The hardest task is to bring the plane from Selangor to here. We have to cut it to a few parts, hire five trailers and two cranes to lift the aircraft in early May.”
He added that about two months were spent to plan how the aircraft pieces would be transported to Pahang without disrupting any traffic. He continued,
“The most exciting part was when we were entering the Sungai Lembing area, the news spread so fast and the crowd was queuing along the street to see the plane for themselves… the atmosphere was so festive, almost like a party.”
“Some say it’s cheaper and easier if we just construct a plane-shaped building, but I don’t want that as it is not the same compared to using a real aircraft.”
The plane hotel, set to open next year, will only have five rooms to ensure the maximum comfort for guests, while the aircraft’s cockpit area will be retained.
“We placed this aircraft in the jungle area because we want it to blend with the nature concept for visitors to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city,” Kevin added.
This upcoming hotel is under the management of Time Capsule Retreat, a family-run retreat in Sungai Lembing, famous for its capsule-style rooms made out of concrete pipes.
