3,600 giant live trees have been shipped from Malaysia to Qatar. This impressive feat was announced by Elegancia Group recently as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and a greener future for Qatar. As reported by The Peninsular Qatar, a special vessel needed to be used to handle the complex and logistically challenging project to ship the trees in a journey that will take about two weeks.
The giant trees, as tall as 18 meters, were loaded into an area with 20 meters deep covered hold. Henrik Christiansen, Chief Executive Officer of Elegancia Group, explained,
“The shipping of such a large number of trees of various sizes and over a distance of 3,000 nautical miles is a remarkable milestone in our service history. Despite the challenging nature of the operation, our unique capabilities and our experienced and highly qualified professionals deployed their unmatched expertise in planning and execution, further strengthening our stellar track record in delivering projects with excellence.”
Although the journey might only take 2 weeks, the project itself took several months of planning and coordination. The giant trees needed to be prepped for the journey to avoid any damage to the roots. To establish a new root system, the whole procedure took about 3 to 4 months.
Before starting the journey, the area where the giant trees are placed was cleaned and sanitized. Wooden cradles and scaffoldings were installed to support the trees during the journey too. On top of that, several specialists have been hired to manage the arrangement of the trees as well as their irrigation until they reach Doha.
