Malaysia has recently been reporting an alarming hike in cases these past few days. The first notable hike happened on October 2, with an increase of 287 cases – the biggest daily rise since the pandemic started.

This increase was reported by The Spectator Index but what caught many netizens’ eyes is this one comment.

A man left a comment saying,

“278 biggest? LOL. We’re in Indonesia [with] 4,000 daily rise. And we still cool.”

Funnily, one person gave a came back that his country instead recorded a 97,000 hike in daily cases in India.

The initial comment amused many netizens as Malaysians called it a ‘weird flex’.

“Weird flex, but ok,” said one commenter.

“We all live on this Earth, so it doesn’t matter which country gets the higher increase. What’s important is to make sure it decreases,” another one said.

This is a pandemic and it’s not a competition. No matter how high the cases are, remember that this virus is affecting a lot of lives out there.

Also, remember that one person’s comment does not generalise the whole nation.

Let’s continue to keep safe, and make sure we curb the spread of the virus.
