In this heartwarming story of the day, a Malaysian has decided to share how she came to a mutual understanding with a stray dog that was near her house.

Wan Shahriza shared a post on Facebook titled “A dog in our neighbourhood” on 11 November.

“This dog does not have an owner and it is homeless. Whenever I drive by, I always see it in the same spot near my house.”

“At first, I was scared of it. If I park my car outside my house, I will sprint back into my home as I was afraid that it will chase me.”

“We Malays have always been frightened with stories of aggressive dogs so much that it has become a stigma.”

Wan then said that after a while, she realised that the dog never disturbed anyone. In fact, it was always cheerful and would want to play with the cats in the neighbourhood. The cats will be afraid of the canine and would run away but it will always be undeterred. After seeing this scene play out a few times, Wan then said,

“At that time, I understand that this dog only wanted to befriend somebody.”

After observing the dog, Wan then started feeding it along with her children. She would keep some food scraps and throw them out of her car. As her courage built up, she started getting out of the car and putting the food in front of it.

“The dog looks like it is perpetually hungry but it was always polite. It will only start eating after we leave.”

Now that the dog trusts Wan completely, it would always follow her car till her gate but it wouldn’t try to enter the house. It’s as if the dog knows that there needs to be some boundaries kept.

Wan continues to feed the dog and they have even named it “Girl.”

This is definitely a very heartwarming story! We hope Girl will soon find a caring family and we thank Wan for her caring and thoughtful act.
