“Till death do us part”. A wedding vow that many will exchange during the big day but not everyone dares to keep the promise. A Malaysian man, however, proved that in sickness and in health, he is staying by the side of his wife.
On his TikTok account, the loyal husband, Asdina asked his wife, Syamimi about their wedding, to which the wife said,
“We’re not married.”
Asdina then asked who was he to Syamimi, to which she responded,
“You’re my boyfriend.”
This is not an argument. Syamimi lost part of her memory and she cannot recall the wedding with her husband that took place in November 2018. Syamimi was diagnosed with tuberculous meningitis (TBM), a bacterial infection of the brain that has not only affected her memory but also her sight and physical movement since June 2022.
Despite the need to remind her every day, Asdina stays by Syamimi’s side.
“We’re married. Why would we be staying together now if we’re not married? I love you,” Asdina told Syamimi.
Her memory loss affected Asdina but he does his best every day to put on his smile and care for his wife, whom he calls an angel from heaven. It has been more than 18 months since Syamimi lost parts of her memory but so far, Asdina has been doing well in taking care of his bedridden wife.
“Remarry? No, thank you”
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Asdina said that as of now, Syamimi cannot recall most of their memories together. No more “shuben” (slang for husband) from Syamimi as she has zero memories of their wedding day.
Despite her condition, Asdina made it clear that he has no plans to find another bride.
“It has never crossed my mind to remarry. She’s a test for me, and I’m not trying to find a way out from this by remarrying.”
This reminds us of 50 First Dates, a romcom starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, where the heroine suffers daily memory loss and wakes up every day believing it’s the same day.
