One of the greatest forms of art any person could ever be exposed to is music. From harmonies to vocals that you may not be able to fathom, music has a beautiful way of telling a story without needing to explain something entirely. A group of buskers in Bukit Bintang are proving this sentiment more true than ever, when they dazzled with a performance that captured the attention of one Malaysian.
TikTok user Megala Meyalagan recently shared a video to her TikTok account @megala.meyalagan of a busking group she crossed paths with while walking the streets of Bukit Bintang. Captivated and intrigued, Megala whipped her phone out to capture their performance.
Thoroughly impressed, Megala, who is Malaysian Indian, recorded the group of Malay buskers singing a Tamil song.
Standing as a trio, one man sat on a cajon drum while following the beat of the song, as one of his other members played the violin seamlessly. The outstanding member of the group, however, was the lead, who played the guitar while singing the song itself. Fluent and completely comprehensible, the singer smiled multiple times as he sang the words of the song, taking in the moment with his bandmates.
“When our abang sings Tamil songs! This is Malaysia for you!” wrote Megala in the caption of her post.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Megala stated that she froze upon hearing the trio sing a Tamil song, which is titled Elangaathu Veesudhey (2003), and was featured in a Tamil movie called Pithamagan.
“We didn’t request for the song, but he spontaneously sang that Tamil song the moment he saw me. I’m very happy to share and be apart of something beautiful and heart-warming like this!” said Megala to WORLD OF BUZZ.
Garnering immense praise online, many Malaysians expressed how beautiful they thought the group’s vocals were, adding that this is a true representation of the multicultural society in our nation.
“This is the Malaysia I’m proud of!” wrote one user.
In a delightful surprise, the lead singer of the trio, whose name is Pasya, discovered the TikTok video and commented under Megala’s clip, thanking her for the kind words and for sharing this moment online.
“Thank you so much for the beautiful dedication! We were so happy. We will meet you again!” wrote Megala in response to Pasya.
