Ladurée is a French luxury bakery and sweets maker house that has been around for 155 years and has always been Paris’s most iconic pastry shop. It is expected to open soon in Malaysia at Pavilion KL’s Couture Zone (Level 3), though no precise date has been set yet. So for those who hasn’t tasted these world renowned macaroons, fret not, you will get to have your first taste soon without the need to fly all the way to Paris.

Ladurée was founded in 1862 when Louis Ernest Ladurée, a miller from the southwest of France, opened a small bakery in Paris at 16 Rue Royale. Its significant rise to fame came in 1930 when his grandson, Pierre Desfontaines, came up with the original idea of the double-decker macaroons, by sticking two macaroon shells together with a creamy ganache as filling.

Since then, Ladurée has maintained its reputation against growing competitors, selling around 20,000 macaroons every day all over the world.

International expansion of Ladurée began in 2005 with London, England. Today, Ladurée stores are present in various countries around the world, for instance Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Morocco, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, USA and soon to come, Malaysia.

Ladurée is so popular that it has made the pastries and its famous macaroons for the film Marie Antoinette as well as the CW’s hit teen TV series Gossip Girl, as Blair Waldorf’s favourite pastries.

On top of that, Ladurée also regularly collaborated with fashion designers like Christian Louboutin and Marini. In 2011, it was then chosen to conceive macaroons for Albert II, Prince of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock’s wedding.

Ladurée is of course, popular for very good reasons. Perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft and luscious ganache filling on the inside, Ladurée macarons certainly melts in your mouth.
