The Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA) saw illegal cabbies inflating prices, charging up to RM250 for a short ride to a hotel near KLCC.
After being monitored by authorities, an unlicensed taxi driver operating a Toyota Hiace was arrested, and the vehicle was seized. The driver persuaded and begged seven tourists from Brunei to accept his services, and they were expected to pay the RM250 fare upon reaching their destination near KLCC.

In a Facebook post by the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ), anyone found guilty may face action under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010), which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both, upon conviction.
Those who abet or assist in this “touting” activity may also be charged under Section 243(1) of the same Act

In its statement, JPJ encouraged the public to use authorised transport services available at the KLIA1 and KLIA2 counters or to book rides through legitimate e-hailing apps.
Previously, an illegal Malaysian taxi driver at KLIA Terminal 1 was also caught charging Chinese tourists RM836 and was fined RM5,000 following her arrest. The Chinese tourists said the driver refused to let them get out of the car upon arriving at their destination, and one was allegedly slapped for refusing to pay the fare.
