With Ramadan bazaar vendors doing everything they can to put themselves ahead of the stiff competition they’re facing against other vendors, somethings might slip under the radar.
For instance, for one Murtabak vendor, a rag slip under the radar and found itself inside of a customer’s Murtabak.
The Ministry of Health (KKM) recently found out about this incident and considering the cleanliness concern that comes with finding a rag inside a food item, has revealed that they have issued a fine to the vendor.
In a statement, they wrote, “The Ministry of Health, through the Food Safety and Quality Program (PKKM) has conducted further investigations and found that carelessness during food handling has caused the presence of a wiping cloth in a Murtabak.”
“Thus, enforcement action has been taken against the stall that sells the food by issuing 1 compound notice under Regulation 32(1)(b) of the Food Sanitation Regulations 2009.”
In their inspection, they also identified several other offences that the stall owner has committed, namely having no separation of raw and cooked materials, using unclean rags to wipe and food handlers not wearing personal protective clothing correctly.
The amount compounded were not specified.
This should be a reminder to all vendors out there to ensure the cleanliness of their cooking space during this busy time.
