A toddler with down syndrome is in urgent need of RM80,000 so that she can undergo surgery as she is enduring heart problems.
2-year-old Koh Jia Wei has 2 growing holes in her heart, as confirmed by doctors, and if she does not undergo surgery soon, she may require oxygen assistance to breathe.
Based on a report by Berita Harian, the little girl’s mother, 39-year-old Koh Bee Bee, shared that she had been diagnosed with a perforated heart disease when she was just 8-months-old.
The doctor had told Koh to monitor her child’s condition as the holes were still small and that it was possible for the holes to close. But, sadly, the complete opposite happened.
“The holes were getting bigger and the doctor said there was fluid in it, if I didn’t act quickly, my child’s life would be in danger. Before this, I did routine check-ups at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital and it is far from my home in Masai (Johor) and takes up high expenses,” she shared.
Koh, who is a single mother, then tried to get help from an NGO and they had advised her to try seeking treatment for her child at Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
“I really have no fixed income and have to take care of a child who is sick, there is no other help,”
“This is because, if my child is sick, she becomes very tired and unable to move, in fact, sometimes she can sleep all day. This June, my child will be 2-years-old, so I hope she can be healthy and I can work to support both of us,” she added.
