“Are we celebrating CNY this year or not?” is probably what’s playing on everyone’s minds right about now. Considering that everyone is more concerned about staying safe at home, celebrating this festivity might get a bit tricky… but not impossible! This 2021, why not embrace our current situation and celebrate this year’s Chinese New Year the new normal way. How?

Read on to find six nifty ways you can still celebrate CNY while staying safe at home.

1. Don’t go visiting your relatives if you’ve just returned from a trip

We know that Chinese New Year is about reuniting with your loved ones. And if you’re living in the same city as your family, you’re definitely one of the lucky ones this year!

However, if you’ve just returned from any trips, whether international or just interstates, please make sure to be cautious and not visit your relatives, no matter how “fine” you feel. Even if you haven’t been travelling but you go out a lot for work or other necessities, try your best to avoid visiting other people! Taking extra precautions certainly won’t hurt anyone. Don’t worry, your family and friends will always be just a phone call away and you can host a virtual party instead!

2. Need some last-minute preparation stuff? Do your shopping online!

If you’re ever in need of any festive necessities from the store, we recommend getting it done from home where you won’t be putting your safety at risk. Also, shopping online would be way more convenient! Worried that shipping will take a long time? Just use apps like GrabMart and you’ll receive your items straight away!

Plus, did you know that GrabMart now has more than just groceries? They also feature pharmacies, gifts, bakeries, beauty and fashion items, household essentials and so many more. It’s like a one-stop centre where you can get whatever you need on the same day. No more waiting around for parcels!

3. Go cashless with your ang pow and just transfer them via e-wallets

Since we probably won’t be able to gather with most of our family members this year, does that mean we won’t receive any ang pows as well? Well, this might be the silver lining for all of you married couples. But fret not! We live in a world of technology, okay. Just convert those ang pows into your e-wallet and you’ll be able to go cashless with it! Can save trees too.

For you singletons, this means you can receive those ang pows this year without being judged. Hooray for technology! ?

You can get a bit creative with it too by sending ang pows in the form of Grab rides, food or mart gift cards! Not only is this a practical gift, but it’ll also appear more thoughtful too. They also come in five fun designs!

4. Spread some love to your loved ones by sending over your homemade food

For Malaysians, sending over food to someone is one of our highest forms of affection. And since we probably won’t be able to be together this CNY, why not spread some joy to your loved ones by delivering some homemade goods to them? And with GrabExpress’ speedy delivery, you can be sure that your package will arrive in no time! This way, you can all enjoy the same home-cooked food via a virtual party afterwards.

5. Can’t get all the chores done in time? Get people to do it for you lah!

If you’re living alone, then it’s probably overwhelming to get the whole house in shape in time for CNY. So if those chores are getting out of hand, why not get someone to help you out! ICYMI, Grab has partnered up with Kaodim to provide fixing and cleaning services for your homes. So if you need your air conditioner serviced or just want someone to help with mopping up the whole house, here’s your solution! Easy peasy, right?

6. Can’t Lou Sang at the restaurant but you can get it delivered to you instead

Every CNY definitely won’t be complete without some Yee Sang! But just because we can’t dine at restaurants, doesn’t mean we can’t have it. Just get it delivered straight to your doorstep instead! This way, you can have a feast without having to put in hours of work in the kitchen.

How? By using GrabFood, of course! There are tons of options to choose from. You want to Yee Sang every day also can!
