During this pandemic, many women have quit their jobs in order to care for their families and they have yet to rejoin the workforce.
This mother in Indonesia has shared on Linkedin about being a working mother and having a very supportive company that doesn’t force her to choose.
To give a little context on this, Nita Ramadhita works at Bobobox which is a capsule hotel company in Indonesia and on 12 January, she was unable to find a babysitter for her baby but she also had a very important meeting.
So, she told her boss that she needed permission to bring her baby to the office and take care of her during the meeting. Her boss was very open to the idea.
After the experience of having her baby close to her while she was presenting in a meeting, it made Nita feel very grateful for being able to have such a supportive office.
“Being a mom or a marketer; I am so grateful that I don’t have to choose and I thank Bobobox for supporting it”
She further elaborates on what it means for her to be a working mother: “when we decided to be parents, I promised myself to keep my passion alive and having a baby would not be a finish line for me.”
“My daughter would not be the reason why I couldn’t have a career and a ‘mother’ would not be the only thing that defines me as a person.”
“Yes, I am a mother of a very beautiful daughter. But, I’m also a wife, a marketer, a leader. I am still my own person with desires and dreams.”
This does not mean that Nita thinks badly of stay-at-home mothers but rather, she knows that it’s a personal choice made consciously.
“Choosing to be a stay-at-home mom is definitely a noble thing that I respect. If taking care of your child full-time and being there for them in every step they’ll take is what makes you whole, then go for it, mama!”
As for Nita, she feels that it’s such a privilege that she gets to be a working mother.
“To be able to have a meeting with my daughter cooing right beside me, to be able to nurse her while crafting a strategy, to be able to keep pursuing my career and not miss any of my baby’s milestones is such as privilege.”
Being a working mum or a stay-at-home mum is certainly not a very easy thing to do. Thank you to the mothers in the world who put their best into making sure their children grow up well!
