A lot of us pray when we are facing times of desperation such as when we are entering the exam hall.

Recently, the Indonesian bomoh society (Perdunu) organised a special ritual to make Indonesia win against Thailand in the 1st leg of the finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup.

According to Detik News, the special ritual is called “Samar Wulu” and Perdunu’s chairman, Abdul Fatah Hasan said that it functions to ward off misfortune and to pray for the Indonesian team’s victory.

“This ritual is done as we really want the national team to win.”

The ritual was held in Perdunu’s HQ as they needed a lot of manpower for this.

“Big happenings such as football matches, we need to hold the ritual in the HQ and involve a lot of people.”

The majority of it was not shown to the public but the ending prayers were live-streamed so that many people can join in.

However, on 29 December, the 1st leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup finals between Indonesia and Thailand took place.

Thai player Chanathip Songkrasin managed to score a goal in the first 90 seconds and the match progressed with 3 more goals added to Thailand’s tally while Indonesia had none.

The 2 teams will face one another once again on New Year’s day at 8.30pm in the Singapore National Stadium.

Well, that did not turn out well, but Perdunu will most probably pray harder for the next match.

What are some of the more absurd things that you have prayed for? Let us know in the comments.
