Always be mindful of your words, regardless of where you are and who you’re speaking to. Words can be hurtful and the consequences can be unimaginable.
Not too long ago, Langkawi MP, Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah went viral for his “lewd invitation” which was extended to Teresa Kok in the Parliament, where she was told to visit Langkawi without wearing anything. The response came when Teresa was asking Suhaimi if shorts are allowed at the beach in Langkawi.
Just yesterday (November 9), before starting his speech in the Parliament, Suhaimi took the opportunity to apologise for his recent “come to Langkawi naked” remark.
“I would like to apologise for my recent remark which may have upset some people. I’m sorry for my mistake.”
Suhaimi also assured the people that Langkawi has always been near to his heart and the issues that are faced by the people there should not, and will not be taken lightly.
Immediately after ending his apology, some politicians in the Parliament “cheered” for Suhaimi out of happiness for his statement.
“Bagus, Langkawi! Tahniah! (Good job, Langkawi! Congratulations!”)
Suhaimi also gave everyone two thumbs up before continuing his speech.
Suhaimi’s remark was met with major criticisms not only in the Parliament but also on the Internet, where netizens were baffled to hear such a statement from him. Last weekend, Suhaimi responded to the criticisms and said that he was merely joking as a friend.
“I have a good relationship with Teresa,” he added.
Last night, Teresa Kok posted on her Facebook account and responded to Suhaimi’s long-overdue apology.
“A lesson for someone who belittled women.”
You can listen to Suhaimi’s apology from the 1:35:50 mark.
Now that Suhaimi has apologised for his lewd jokes, we hope this will serve as a reminder to everyone in the Parliament, or anyone out there to ALWAYS be mindful of your words.
