Not only Malaysians but everyone around the world are waiting for the much-anticipated Covid-19 vaccine which is said to arrive sometime next year. What’s scary is that six individuals were reported to have died in the final phase of a clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the United States (US) pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German counterpart BioNTech.
However, Malaysians might not need to fear for the risk of the vaccine as we have a brave volunteer now. Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said during the Parliament session today that he’s prepared to be the first person in Malaysia to be tested with a Covid-19 vaccine.
“I offer to be the first person to be tested with the Covi-19 vaccine if there’s one. I’m not afraid because I want to be healthy”
During the debate for the Budget 2021’s allocation for the Health Ministry at the committee stage, Bung Mokhtar was responding to Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu’s who was telling about his experience when his whole family tested positive for Covid-19.
Wong said that he, his wife and his son even faced rejection for verification tests. Wong had spent over 70 days under hospitalisation, including 42 days under a coma. His son, Jackie Wong, the national athlete was actually kept in the hospital for 73 days even though the virus had already died in his body.
“I feel that my family including me had become test subjects when we were verified to be Covid-19 positive. If we already have that vaccine, who will become the next test subject?”
He added that that the public has requested that the vaccine be tested on leaders and politicians first to ensure its effectiveness and ended his speech by calling to the politicians in the Dewan Rakyat if they’re ready to be test subjects.
Should Bung Mokhtar be held against his word once we obtain the Covid-19 vaccine? Let us know what you think!
