A Malaysian man is showcasing a mistake made by the authorities when he received a RM300 speeding summons for a car that he doesn’t own.

Taking to the DISKAUN BAYAR SAMAN JPJ PDRM (DBS) Facebook group, Saiful Mat Saad shared how the authorities had mistakenly issued a speeding summons for his motorcycle’s number plate, 8557, while the vehicle in the summons photo is a car with a very similar number plate, 6557. It is important to note that both vehicles’ number plates differ by just 1 digit.

On top of that, the car that was caught speeding was from Bintulu, Sarawak, while Saiful and his motorcycle are in Kedah.

He wrote, “Assalamualaikum, just asking, there’s a summons for someone else’s vehicle, the number plate is wrong. Do I have to go to the traffic police station to settle this, or is there another way? My motorcycle is 8557, but the car that’s in the wrong is 6557. I am in Kedah, the car is in Bintulu, Sarawak.”

What should he do?

Netizens urged Saiful to head to the nearest traffic police station to clear things up, while others called for him to seek legal action against the mistake.

“I think you don’t have to pay it. Bring your vehicle grant and a picture of the car to make a report. And, the summons will be cancelled.”

“What an inconvenience. For no reason, you have to waste time to go to a (traffic police) station. Summon them back, brother.”

“Just summon them back.”

WORLD OF BUZZ has since reached out to both the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department for comment, but has yet to hear back.
