Identity theft is something that is not taken lightly in Malaysia. Though the main focus of such crimes would normally involve fraud, this time around it was used for deception.
As the Tanjung Piai Parliamentary polling day takes place today, three would-be voters became victims of identity theft when their MyKad details were already used by others to vote.
The victims were two voters at the SK Sungai Boh polling center and one voter at SMK Seri Kukup polling center, found out about the incident when they arrived to cast their ballots only to find out that they have done so based on the voter list.
All three victims have made police reports at the Permas Police station, with the reports and pictures of the victims making its way on social media.
With investigation currently underway, we would urge members of the public from sharing their own speculations and let the authorities do their job.
