Recently, there have been several incidents involving stray dogs attacking children, sparking concern and outrage among the public.
One of the most recent cases involved Nur Haira, who was reportedly mauled by a pack of five dogs near her grandmother’s home in Kampung Tambak, Sungai Kelambu, Peserai, Johor.

Nur Haira was taken to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail (HSNI), where she was treated in the red zone and placed in an induced coma. She was later transferred to Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) in Johor Bahru due to the extent of her injuries. Her family later confirmed that Nur Haira’s surgery went smoothly and that she remains in stable condition.
Celebrity preacher Haris Ismail has since taken to Threads to share his thoughts on the issue, along with a suggestion.
In his post, he shared his personal view that Malaysia should ban members of the public from keeping dogs as pets.
“If you don’t mind me saying this, I feel that members of the public in Malaysia should no longer be allowed to keep dogs as pets. This is also in line with religious guidance. Our school of thought sets very strict conditions, and people living in urban areas do not need to follow these practices (such as keeping dogs to guard farms, etc.).

“I don’t like having dogs around”
Haris further expressed his heartbreak over seeing people getting bitten, noting that some victims had even come close to losing their lives.
He also shared his personal opinion on keeping dogs, saying that he has never been comfortable with having them around, whether they belong to non-Muslim neighbours or are stray dogs.
“It’s heartbreaking to see some people on their way to school getting bitten, with some even coming close to losing their lives. Personally, I don’t like having dogs around, whether they belong to my non-Muslim neighbours or are stray dogs. I’m sorry if you disagree, but this is just my personal opinion.”
