As inflation hits, many people have been feeling the pressure and are actively searching for alternatives to help cope with life.
Other than that, people have also been settling down and starting a family. That being said, weddings would usually cost a lot and starting a family would mean figuring out finances with each other.
Just recently, a Malaysian man was left confused after he noticed that other people are settling down and getting married.
In his post, he said, “I really don’t understand how people are able to settle down or even get married? I earn about RM3,600 a month and I did a break down on here’s where most of my money go.”
His list of expenses included:
- Car petrol: RM450
- Car loan: RM850 (5 years)
- Insurance: RM200
- Toll: RM100
- Telephone bill: RM30
- Electrical bill (sharing with his brother): RM200
- Wi-Fi: RM95
- Groceries (sharing with brother): RM350
- Entertainment (including renting for badminton courts, hanging out with friends and buying things for myself): RM 400-500
He mentioned based on the break down that he provided, he only has about RM 375-475 left to save.
“When people ask me why I don’t have a girlfriend, it’s not because I don’t want to, but my financial state just doesn’t allow me to.”
“Some of my friends would think that I’m being very arrogant, not wanting to hang out with them. But the truth is, I just want to save up some money,” he added.
Netizens gave tips on how he could save
Many netizens mentioned how his car loan is very expensive whilst some of them think that he still has time to slowly work for his future.
“I think the car you bought is a little too pricey, and cars would depreciate over time,” said a user.
Another commented, “Oh my god, why are you putting so much pressure on yourself to finish paying off your car loan?”
One user said, “I think you could utilise your weekends to earn some extra income.”
“If you continue thinking that life isn’t ‘allowing’ you to date, you’ll never find a partner.”
Life is not a competition, as long as you’re doing your best to make ends meet, good things will come. Do you think that relationships require a lot of money?
