For most of us, having public holidays means that we are able to enjoy and relax as we don’t have to go to work. However, not everyone thinks the same because for some people, if they don’t work on any particular day, they don’t get paid – which means they are not able to eat on that day.

This Malaysian guy shared his experience on Facebook when he met a guy who was distressed at the thought of a public holiday happening the next day and it’s honestly quite heartbreaking. “I was on the train and along the way, this man boarded on one of the stations. He was dressed in sweaty clothes that were rather dirty, and he looked rather tired,” he wrote.

“Looking at his face, he looked like he had a lot of worries weighing him down and seemed to be thinking about his problems. I could see him wiping away tears that were rolling down his face, as he was thinking about his concerns. Suddenly, he asked the young man in front of him, ‘Is it true that tomorrow is a holiday?’ The boy confirmed this and the man looked even more worried.”

After that, he could hear the man muttering to himself and saying, Adoi, tomorrow is a holiday, if there’s no work how am I going to put food on the table.” He just wants to earn an honest living! He said that he did not know what problem that the other man was facing, but he just wanted to share his experience and reminded others to be grateful for what they have as there were many people who are suffering more than us.

In another post, he added that he had approached the worried man, who was working as a cleaner and was illiterate as he had trouble learning how to read and write. He had also tried to help the man by offering him some money but the man refused to accept the money. The post has since gone viral with over 3,000 shares and many people agreed that they should be grateful for what they have now and hoped that the guy managed to overcome his problems.

Moral of the story: Always be thankful for what you have because there are so many others who are in need!
