The adorable feline is facing such national attention no thanks to an incident where it allegedly scratched a young boy. However, Marbles’ owners are saying that the kitty cat was wrongly accused, Coconuts reported.

The mother of the boy filed a complaint to the authorities about the cat, as it had apparently left a 5mm scratch on her 5-year-old son.

The incident happened when they were purchasing some items in a pharmacy where Marbles lives.

Currently, the authorities are actually on the hunt for Marbles. Yep, believe it. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) are also requesting the owner to turn it in to them right now.

However, it seems like Marbles is a very much loved cat in the Kwun Tong neighbourhood. A lawmaker by the name of Roy Kwong has since asked the authorities to back off while launching a petition to garner support.

According to the Facebook page supporting Marbles the cat, the petition has already gotten about 70,000 signatures!

Roy also stated via the Facebook page that the shop owners have kindly offered to pay for the little boy’s medical bills at the clinic nearby, but the mother refused the offer.

Marbles is reportedly unable to eat and not feeling well at the moment, most likely due to the shock of this whole event.

As such, the poor kitty is being kept at a private veterinary clinic and they reported on Marbles’ condition as being ‘not in a good physical state’. Oh no!

The pharmacy owners and staff are also sure that Marbles was wrongly accused for hurting the boy.

One of the staff members spoke to the local reporters and even showed CCTV footage that proved Marbles was completely innocent!

The news of Kwun Tong’s beloved cat being unfairly blamed for something it didn’t even do has upset the whole neighbourhood. Roy and the Liberal Party of Hong Kong have written in to the AFCD, requesting them to save Marbles.

The Liberal Party defended Marbles by saying it was sent for regular vaccines and should be free of rabies.

However, the AFCD retaliated by saying the cat should be kept for rabies observation according to the Cap 421 Rabies Ordinance law.

Cats are such a universally-loved animal. There are many cat cafes around Hong Kong with thriving business too. Hopefully the authorities can let Marbles go since he did not harm the little boy anyway.

If you’re interested in signing the petition, you can do so here. You can fill in your name in the first column and your e-mail address in the second column.

#JusticeForMarbles!
