The government has expressed full support for Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s decree opposing the organisation of any lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) activities deemed deviant in the state.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the federal government stands firmly behind the Sultan’s stance and hopes the issue will be addressed in a structured manner in accordance with existing laws.

“We fully support His Majesty’s decree and, Insya-Allah, we will act based on the law,” he told reporters.
Zulkifli said enforcement and monitoring of LGBT-related activities in the country would be left to the relevant authorities.
Sultan Selangor issues firm warning against LGBT activities
Earlier this week, Sultan Sharafuddin issued a decree calling for firm action against any party involved in organising or promoting LGBT-related activities in Selangor. His Majesty stressed that although such acts constitute individual sins, they could potentially invite divine wrath and curse upon the state.

The Sultan also stated that he does not consent to any festivals, parades, activities, events or promotions related to the LGBT lifestyle in any district in Selangor. This includes the establishment of associations, clubs, organisations or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) linked to such activities.
Following the decree, organisers of the “Glamping With Pride” camping programme announced on Tuesday that they had cancelled the event scheduled to take place on 17 and 18 January in Hulu Langat, Selangor, citing safety concerns.
