A family of four was among five individuals who lost their lives after two siblings, driving a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz recklessly, were involved in a five-vehicle crash along Kilometre 27 of Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam in Kluang, Johor.

Four of the victims, including a 10-year-old girl, were killed at the scene on 1 June, while a fifth, the 22-year-old driver of the speeding BMW, passed away later. Multiple other individuals involved in the accident were left injured

Victims of fatal Johor crash to receive PERKESO benefits

Following the incident, PERKESO announced that two of the injured victims have become the first recipients of benefits under the Non-Employment Injury Scheme (SKBBK), or “Lindung 24 Jam”, since it came into effect on 1 June.

Husnizam Hisamudin and Muhammad Amirul Hazim Misnon were confirmed to be active contributors under Act 4, making them eligible for sick leave payments and permanent disability benefits under PERKESO’s Lindung 24 Jam scheme.

“Preliminary medical assessments showed that Husnizam suffered injuries to his shoulder and arm, while Muhammad Amirul sustained injuries to his mouth. As a result, both are also eligible for implant treatment, rehabilitation equipment, and rehabilitation services based on their respective needs, with no limit on the support provided,” PERKESO said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the families of the deceased victims who lost their lives in the crash are also eligible to receive benefits under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Lindung Pekerja).

PERKESO benefits apply despite the crash occurring after working hours

PERKESO Group Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said that although the accident occurred outside working hours, the victims and their families remain protected under PERKESO, subject to their eligibility.

He explained that under PERKESO’s latest scheme, protection for contributors has been expanded to cover accidents regardless of when or where they occur through the Lindung 24 Jam initiative.

“This tragedy shows that misfortune can happen at any time, regardless of the time or location. Through Lindung 24 Jam, contributors and their families can continue to receive the protection they deserve during difficult times.

“PERKESO extends its deepest condolences to the families of all the victims and hopes that the assistance provided will help ease their burden as they cope with the painful loss of their loved ones,” Dr Mohammed Azman said.
