The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has confirmed that the controversial film ‘Mentega Terbang’ has been removed from the streaming service Viu since 27 February 2023. Furthermore, its Minister Fahmi Fadzil questioned why the film is suddenly being raised by certain individuals and parties when it has been around since 2021 and was approved under the previous government.

As reported by Utusan Malaysia, the KKD Minister further stressed that the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will take action against the controversial film. Besides that, the Minister of Religious Affairs Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has also given his feedback regarding the film, saying that the content of the film goes against Islamic teachings.

Fahmi was quoted as saying,

“What I find interesting is this movie has been around since 2021. Who was governing then? Why no action at the time? Where were these people who are raising this issue now back then?”

“We can’t be hypocrites, it’s not a new film. Therefore this issue is being played up by people who are trying to take advantage of it not by pouring oil over it,”

The KKD Minister stressed that the Unity Government will definitely take action and investigate the matter to ensure that everyone complies with the law.
