Khairul Aming is well-known for his food content, which has gained massive praise online. A doctor, however, seems to have an issue with such content produced by Khairul Aming, as well as other Malaysians out there.
Out of concern for health, Dr Rafidah Aziz recently tweeted her thoughts about one of Khairul’s recipes which is that they’re too oily. Dr Rafidah also said that she hopes to see a different and healthier menu in the future.
“It’s too oily. Fried food is not good. I hope you’re more aware about the problem of many Malaysians. We don’t want to see deteriorating health and the country falling apart.”
Dr Rafidah also took the opportunity to share a healthy eating habit that may eliminate the chances of getting liver disease.
Salam KhairulAming. Saya berharap masakan akan datang adalah makanan sihat. Banyak sangat minyak ni. Goreng is not good. Harap lebih peka dengan masalah rakyat Malaysia. Kita tidak mahu kesihatan makin teruk, negara makin merundum. TK. https://t.co/vIjsh4lmTV

“A pinch or two is fine”
Many Malaysians did not sit well with what Dr Rafidah had to say, with some even challenging her to cook her own healthy food. In response to that, Dr Rafidah has since tweeted an apology yesterday morning (April 2) following the misunderstanding and criticism she received online.
“I’m sorry. Many thought that I was blaming Khairul Aming for affecting Malaysians’ health. My last 2 sentences were supposed to be in a different paragraph,” she stated.
Dr Rafidah also clarified that she did not blame anyone in her previous tweet, but as a professional, she saw the need to share her professional opinion about eating healthy.
“You’re responsible for your own health. I’m glad that many have realised that Sambal contains a lot of calories. If you must eat, a pinch or two will do.”
Saya mohon maaf kerana saya nampak ramai yg salah anggap yg sy menuduh En Khairul Aming merosakkan kesihatan rakyat Malaysia. Dua ayat terakhir saya sepatutnya di para yg lain.
Walaubagaimanapun, harapan saya video2 atau content2 mana2 influencer ada tertera kandungan kalori. https://t.co/4t9MzjfUwe

“It tastes different if you alter the recipe”
On the same night, Khairul tweeted a response video to explain his stand.
“I’m sharing my perspective on this issue as an obese Malaysian and a food content creator.”
As an obese person, Khairul revealed that he used to eat clean until he lost weight. However, he said that it stressed him out when he couldn’t eat a lot of food around him. His body weight increased again after he decided to just eat what he wants but under one condition.
Controlling the food portion.
On the other hand, as a food content creator, Khairul said that altering the recipe will affect the taste of the food.
“To have a good Sambal, we need to have enough oil. To get a juicy and crispy fried chicken, we need enough oil to deep fry the poultry.”
Khairul admitted that he cannot keep everyone happy, but it’s up to his followers to cook the food the way they want, as well as control their food portions.
Thank you kepada semua yang bagi feedback mengenai minyak masak dalam masakan, I will take note for improvement ??. If you dont mind, I want to share my perspective on this issue, especially coming from me as an obese Malaysian and also a food content creator: pic.twitter.com/OGQgBjqbvP

As a medical professional, it’s good that Dr Rafidah shared her take on calorie intake and healthy eating habits. In the meantime, as a food content creator and a celebrity chef, Khairul Aming’s recipes will always come in handy, and as he said, it’s entirely up to you how to control the portion.
