A recent video has taken the internet by storm after an apartment resident in Petaling Jaya shared a chilling incident that left many viewers spooked.
In the clip, which was posted on behalf of the resident, Ms A, an eerie sound can be heard coming from what was believed to be a utility room. The resident who recorded the video claimed the noise resembled a person sobbing, prompting netizens to urge authorities to investigate.
Mysterious crying-like sounds alarm resident
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Ms A said she and her husband were getting ready to head out for dinner on 1 August when they first heard a crying-like sound coming from a utility room along their corridor.
She shared,
“We had never heard anything like it before, but because the sound was quite consistent, we initially brushed it off as coming from the pipes or perhaps a washing machine. When we got home around midnight, we noticed the sound was still there.
“This time, though, it sounded more like muffled groaning, almost as if someone was gagged. That’s when we realised it was coming from the locked utility room.”
The couple then sought help from the building’s security guard, who unlocked several utility rooms alongside the maintenance staff to trace the source of the noise. After inspecting the area, they concluded that the sound was most likely caused by the building’s water pipes.
However, Ms A said she and her husband remained unconvinced.
“Even after the security guard and maintenance staff left, the sound continued and we still felt uneasy. So, we decided to lodge a police report and showed the officers the video. They told us there wasn’t much they could do without further evidence,” she added.
Police inspection and warning to others
Ms A and her husband later contacted a different police station, which dispatched officers to investigate the incident. The officers also inspected a nearby unit located close to the utility room, but found nothing suspicious.
“The officers told us to call them again if we heard the sound, but we haven’t heard it since nor received any further response,” she said.
Reflecting on the incident, Ms A also shared that several women had reached out to her after she published the clip.
“A lot of women messaged me saying they have heard women screaming or what sounded like women being abused around here before. Please stay cautious, even if nothing comes of it.”
Police confirm noise caused by water pressure
In a recent update reported by Harian Metro, Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat stated that officers had inspected the building alongside security personnel and found nothing suspicious.
He added that the unusual sound was believed to have been caused by water pressure in the building’s piping system.
“The security guards also heard the sound, but it was coming from the water pipes. The water pressure is believed to have produced or caused the unusual noise,” he explained.
