A local woman in her 70s was left bleeding from her right hand after a man slashed her with a machete in Taman Desa Sejahtera, Kota Tinggi, Johor.
Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the Kota Tinggi District Control Centre (DCC) received a report on 5 September from a member of the public regarding the incident.

Following the report, a team of police officers and personnel from the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters (IPD) rushed to the scene and arrested a local man in his 70’s, who was the victim’s husband.
Police investigations found that the incident occured following an argument after the victim turned up the volume of the television.
“The suspect, who was intoxicated at the time, then attacked his wife with a machete,” the statement read.

The victim was taken to Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon.
If convicted, the offender could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine, caning, or any two of these punishments.
