Donnie Yen found fame globally with his role as the titular character in Ip Man back in 2008, and he gained even more recognition after his outstanding role as Caine in John Wick Chapter 4.
Ip Man spawned 3 sequels in which the audience watched the character evolve and progresses with his eventual demise in Ip Man 4. Just yesterday (19 May), on his Instagram post, Donnie Yen announced 3 upcoming projects from him, namely Flashpoint: Resurgence, Misjudgment, and perhaps the most surprising one and the most talked about – Ip Man 5.
As of now, Donnie has yet to reveal if Flashpoint: Resurgence will be a direct sequel to Flashpoint, which was released in 2007, or if it will be a brand new story.
Judging from the poster of Misjudgment, the plot appears to be revolving around legal dramas. As for all 3 announced films, no release and production dates have been revealed yet.
While the announced project received major attention from his fans, the announcement of Ip Man 5 has seen fans around the world talking about the possibility of its direction, given the fate of Ip Man in the previous movie, which was deemed to be the conclusion.
At the time of writing (20 May), very little has been shared about his projects, and we have no idea if Ip Man 5 will be a direct sequel, a prequel, or someone continuing his legacy after Ip Man’s death. However, fans continue to wonder about the myriad of possibilities and some were quick to come up with their own theories.
