Foreigners who come to Malaysia to create content often quickly become famous among the locals.
But, did you know that mastering another language can help Malaysians become famous among people from different countries?
A Korean tourist, tangyeong, recently took to her TikTok page to showcase a Malaysian fruit vendor at a pasar malam (night market) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, who could speak Korean. She also refers to him as ‘Mango Boy’.

She wrote, “I was received by Kota Kinabalu’s Mango Boy.”
In tangyeong’s video, the vendor could be seen praising some food items in Korean.

“Hello, mangoes are so good. Wrapped braised pig’s feet are so good,” he said. He then busted out lyrics from the viral Korean Tanghulu song.
It turns out that the vendor is famous among Koreans, who gave him the nickname ‘Mango Boy’!
Korean travel page, Travelholic Korea, has even featured Mango Boy in some of their videos.

“A young man in Kota Kinabalu who speaks Korean very well,” they wrote in one post.
Mango Boy even has his own hashtag in Korean on TikTok, #망고보이.
His Korean language skills and internet fame have since left Malaysians in awe.

“Where did this brother learn Korean?”

“It’s not the mangoes that are selling, he’s the one that’s going to be sold out.”

“He’s good at speaking Korean and he has good looks, he has the opportunity to get a Korean girlfriend!”
Many people also clarified that, due to the high number of Korean tourists in Kota Kinabalu, many vendors there can actually speak Korean!
