Great news for couples who are looking at undergoing fertility treatments to conceive a baby! You can now withdraw from your Account 2 of your EPF to ease the cost of the treatment. This initiative was originally announced during Budget 2020.

The initiative is only available for legally married couples under the age of 55 that have savings in Account 2. According to the official website, couples can withdraw if they have undergone or are planning to undergo Intrauterine insemination (IUI), In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), and Intracytoplasmic Sperm injection (ICSI).

Couples can withdraw either the actual amount that is needed to pay for the treatment or their whole Account 2 savings; whichever that is lower. If the couples have paid for the treatment, the money will be reimbursed. On the other hand, if they have not made any payments, the money will be transferred directly to the medical institution where they are doing the fertility treatment.

There is no pre-determined frequency period for members to apply for the Fertility Treatment Withdrawal. Approval of the application is subject to the availability of savings balance in Account 2, similar to the one stipulated in the current requirements for Health Withdrawal.

We understand that fertility treatments can be costly and we do believe that this is a good option for married couples who are planning to conceive a child.
