A recent video has taken the internet by storm after a woman took to social media to share an incident involving an open burning.

In the video posted by Vanessa (@vaneuscully), she can be seen confronting a woman who allegedly burned trash in the open right beside her car, raising concerns that the fire could potentially cause an explosion given how close it was to the vehicle.

Woman confronted after reportedly burning trash near a car

Vanessa claimed that when she confronted the woman, she said she did not expect the fire to spread so quickly and get out of control. Vanessa eventually called the fire department to put out the fire.

In the video, Vanessa’s car alarm can also be heard going off, although it is unclear whether it was triggered by the fire.

Following the incident, Vanessa said she had reported the matter to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and a local councillor for further action.

“Open burning during the haze and drought season… in front of my car and my house. Had I not yelled at her, I could’ve lost my car and potentially the whole neighbourhood! I have never seen her, nor do I know her. I asked for her MyKad and told her we should go to the police station to lodge a report. She left after the fire department arrived,” the caption read.

“Open burning is an offence!”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Vanessa reflected on the incident and reminded Malaysians to take open burning seriously. She also urged members of the public not to hesitate to speak up or report anyone involved in similar incidents.

“I immediately reported the incident to the local councillor, Y Lun, who directed me to call the fire department and also escalated my report to MBPJ, which followed up with the officer personally.

This is an offence under Section 29A of the Environmental Quality Act (Act 127). It is a punishable offence that can carry a fine of up to RM500,000, a jail term of up to five years, or both. Thanks to my quick action, we managed to prevent further damage to the tree and potentially save the entire playground, including several parked cars.”

Vanessa also alleged that the woman was not a local, and that the authorities attempted to locate the woman but had yet to find her.

“The authorities wanted to issue her a summons but couldn’t find her. Several neighbours cautioned her not to burn the rubbish as there was a green car (my car) nearby that could be damaged. She ignored them and continued burning the rubbish, and their cries for her to stop caught my attention. That’s when I stepped out and confronted her.

In my opinion, there may have been an intention to target me personally, although I had never met her before,” Vanessa added.
