A woman was placed in an induced coma after having been doused with petrol by her boyfriend before being set on fire in an incident near the Simpang Renggam toll plaza in Johor on Wednesday (August 13).
Her boyfriend, the 44-year-old suspect, was also placed in an induced coma after suffering severe burns.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the Kluang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, shared that the District Police Headquarters (IPD) control centre received a call regarding a car fire near the toll plaza, and that there was an alleged attempted murder and suicide using petrol.

“In the incident, the suspect is said to have pulled his 37-year-old girlfriend out of the bus they were riding in and poured petrol on the victim (the girlfriend) and himself. The suspect then lit a lighter and set the victim and himself on fire,”
“As a result, both the victim and the suspect were badly burned. Another man in his 30s also suffered burns on his hands and feet while trying to help the victim. At 6 AM on the same day, all 3 victims were rushed to a hospital, but the victim and her boyfriend were admitted to the hospital due to severe injuries,” he said.
