It’s hard for people with special needs to find employment and that is a fact. However, the establishment of this car wash has gave hope and employment for many people with intellectual disability in Singapore.

According to Mothership, this car wash is known as Minds Wash and it’s located at SPC petrol station along Telok Blangah Road. This unique car wash is managed by Movement for the Intellectually Disabled in Singapore (MINDS) in collaboration with SPC.

In fact, this noble initiative first started in 2001 at BP petrol station in Pasir Panjang. It was funded by an American bank called Merrill Lynch back then. The car wash later shifted to its current location to enable more motorists to see them.

The speciality about this car wash is that the customer’s car will be hand-washed by trained workers who are mentally challenged. Although they may take slightly longer time to finish the job, but they’re meticulous and will make sure that all cars leaving the bay are spotless.

The money that customers pay goes directly to the monthly allowances of the workers which are anywhere between $250 (RM770) to $350 ( RM1080). The remainder money will be used to support the training of a thousand more workers at their vocational centre.

Having said that, it was told that the workers’ salary will increase as they wash more cars. SPC will not receive a single cent from the car wash. In fact, SPC is the one who leases the space and car-washing equipment to them for free.

Many netizens have tried their service and here’s what they have to say:

“The kids were so courteous and kept smiling. There was this uncle who doesn’t seemed mentally challenged, but he worked well together with the other kids. He was joking and laughing while guiding them how to wash a car. Although it immediately rained after the wash, I still feel it was worth the visit. I’m definitely coming back,” Yue Ling said.

“I’ve just enjoyed the most sincere and dedicated car wash service at SPC along Telok Blangah Road. Their service superceded all the other services at other SPC outlets. Do lend them your support whenever you can,” Kim Ang said.

So guys, if you’re around the area, why not drop by to get your car wash and contribute to this noble cause at the same time?
