Beware: Fake Immigration Website Created for Malicious Purposes Detected, M’sians Urged to Be Alert

We can never be too careful when keying in our personal data on the internet as more and more unscrupulous individuals want to steal our valuable personal information.

Just recently, the Immigration Department of Malaysia has announced on its official website to warn members of the public about this fake website that looks similar to their official one. The fake website address has been identified as http://www.eservicesimigov.com and it is believed that the purpose of this website is to steal the personal details entered by users.

Here’s how the fake website looks like and it’s really similar to the real one!

Honestly, the web design looks really convincing and could easily fool those who’re not attentive enough. Some of the information required by the fake website include:

  • Employers’ IC number
  • Company registration number
  • Passport number

As such, the immigration department urges Malaysians, especially travellers who are applying for visas to practise extra precaution to avoid their sensitive information from getting stolen. Also, consumers were asked to stay vigilant and to ensure that the website is authentic before filling in their particulars. Remember to check the website address! 

So guys, if you visit government websites frequently, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for fake websites like this because these people can do a lot of malicious things with stolen personal data!
