As the Lunar New Year draws closer, many people have started cleaning their homes. However, some of us do need a little extra help and that is when we hire experts to help us clean.
In a recent Facebook post by Bank Negara, they warned Malaysians to beware of fake cleaning services. Here are some of their tips:
- Do not click on suspicious links sent via messages;
- Beware of websites asking for your banking passwords and pin numbers; &
- Only download applications from official applications such as Google Play, App Store and so on.
In addition to that, they said that if you believe that you are a victim of financial scams, then you should definitely call your banks or the National Scams Response Centre at 997.
Earlier on in the week, a woman in Kuching was scammed of RM44,000 after clicking on a Facebook ad for a cleaning service, reported Stampin MP, Chong Chien Jen on Facebook.
It is said that the woman had talked to an admin of a Facebook page offering house cleaning services, there, she encountered a problem while trying to make payment for the service.
The next day, she tried to access her bank account and found out that it was blocked. After contacting the bank, they said that there were 8 transfers from her account to a stranger totalling at RM44,000.
It is said that she did not receive any TAC codes for the transactions or messages saying that her transfer limit has been changed.
This is certainly scary, we hope that everyone will remain vigilant against scams.
