What’s up with all these deaths in Genting Highlands recently? 🙁

Last Friday, a Malaysian man was found dead hanging inside his hotel room in Genting Highlands. This shocking incident was discovered by a room cleaner in the morning.

According to FMT and China Press, police investigation revealed that the 65-year-old deceased known as Cheng, was accompanied by another man during the incident, and it turned out that the man was his son.

The  police managed to track down the son at a resort in Genting Highlands. He was reportedly suffering from mental illness and is currently on medication.

Based on the statement given by the 35-year-old son, he and his father actually planned to commit suicide together in Genting Highlands.

For unknown reasons, the son backed out from committing suicide himself after his father died. Later, he was seen running out from the room by a hotel employee.

The father-son duo registered for a hotel room using the son’s name and CCTV footage confirmed that the son was indeed present in the room when the incident happened.

“At the scene, police found the victim lying down, and he had ligature marks on his neck. A rope believed to have been used around the victim’s neck was also discovered in the room,” Pahang Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC, Othman Nayan said.

Initially, the case was classified as sudden death as no evidence was found that could link it to Section 301 of the Penal Code (for murder).

However, the case is now classified under Section 306 of the Penal Code (for abetting suicide) since another person was present in the room. As such, the son could face 10 years of jail time and a fine upon conviction for abetting suicide.

The body was sent to Bentong Hospital for autopsy and no physical injuries were found.

This is certainly an unfortunate event and we hope the son is able to get the help he needs. It must’ve been a traumatising experience for him. RIP Cheng.
