Ask almost any Malaysian if they have been to a Ramadan bazaar before and they would say yes.

However, it seems that the quality of food at these bazaars has been deteriorating as many netizens have uploaded their experience on social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook or X.

Recently, a woman who goes by the name of Azie shared with Sinar Harian about how the murtabak that she bought at a Ramadan bazaar had some extra ingredients in it.

Azie, a 30-year-old mother of one had bought 5 murtabaks from a stall in Guchil on March 16 intending to keep them for sahur the next day.

The next morning, she bit into the murtabak and found that it was crunchy.

“When I was chewing, I thought that it was weird as it was crunchy. I was so shocked to find that I was eating a cockroach.”

The woman continued, “I threw up straight away and lost my appetite and I kept imagining the cockroach in my mouth. It was so disgusting.”

Azie said that she couldn’t take pictures as she was throwing up continuously.

It is said that the mother bought the murtabak for RM5 per piece and this store was a store that they always bought from every Ramadan which is also a local favourite.

She adds that she has no intention of complaining or telling the stall owner.

“It’s enough that I boycott the stall after this. However, as a consumer, I hope that F&B stall operators are more careful when it comes to hygiene.”

This certainly sounds disgusting. We hope that the others will see this as a lesson and are wary.
