The saying often goes that beauty is only skin deep. However, judging an individual on their physical appearance is not something to ever be proud of.

A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after one Malaysian named Azfar shared a tense interaction between him and one of his friends on his page @azfarzenn. In the video, Azfar recorded a moment with an unidentified “friend”, and asked her why she made fun of his facial appearance after an outing with friends.

Doubling down on her opinions, the friend in question criticised Azfar for using camera filters for his photos on his TikTok and Instagram accounts. In a painful exchange, Azfar shared that he uses filters due to his lack of confidence in his appearance online.

The problem is that it’s embarrassing. My friends think you are handsome but when they see you in person, they see all your pimples and it makes me feel awkward,” said the friend in the clip.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Azfar stated that the event which took place before the video included a dinner with a group of friends he had known casually. When he arrived at the eatery, he noticed multiple people making faces at each other, as he had not met a few of them before.

Uncertain of what it was for, he revealed that they eventually started a conversation about him not looking the same as how he looked online and took jabs at his appearance.

“One of them started by saying she’d seen my videos on TikTok, but then immediately questioned me by saying that I didn’t look the same in person as I did online. Then they started making jokes and the whole conversation became about my appearance.

“I wasn’t feeling good after that. Then, the girl who I was talking to in the clip said I couldn’t take a joke, but in my eyes, they were shaming me. That was why, in the video, it was just me and her, and I wanted to ask her why she thought it was funny to say that about me,” he said to WORLD OF BUZZ.

Receiving immense support from TikTok users online, Azfar’s clip has since received almost six million views, with thousands of people coming to his defence and calling out his unidentified friend for her harsh comments.

“It’s a mistake that she didn’t meet me. If she met me, her whole face would burst out in acne,” criticised one user, while another advised Azfar to not be friends with her moving forward.

Others even questioned the validity of the situation, wondering if it indeed happened or if it was a social experiment.

On the other hand, a plethora of users also praised Azfar for his calm and collected demeanour, saying that despite the harsh words, he remained calm and soft-spoken throughout his interaction with the girl.

In a follow-up TikTok video, Azfar stated that he did not want to normalise the use of camera filters online as a tool for confidence, but instead encouraged people to embrace their own beauty as authentically as possible.

“As long as you know you are beautiful in your own eyes, that’s all that matters,” said Azfar in the video.
