Following the controversy surrounding the ex-Singaporean comedian, Jocelyn Chia, who is enduring severe condemnation from Malaysians for her insensitive jokes surrounding the tragic MH370 mystery, Malaysians are now keeping an eye out for Singaporeans who are taking advantage of Malaysia’s privileges.

Among these privileges are our petrol subsidies.

MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL took to their Twitter page to showcase what is presumed to be a Singaporean car, with the owner pumping RON 95 petrol into the vehicle.

They wrote, “The most ‘first world’ country people stealing the Malaysian people’s petrol subsidies”.

Considering how often Singaporeans have been spotted enjoying the petrol prices in Malaysia, Irfan_newboys took to his Twitter account to suggest that the authorities require people to show their Malaysian identity card (IC) should they want to benefit from the petrol subsidies.

“People have been suggesting for the longest time. Make an IC system now. NOW, NOT LATER.”

He went on to recommend that all petrol stations within a 20km vicinity of international borders (both Singapore and Thailand) only sell RON 97 petrol. Should anyone want RON 95 instead, they must showcase their ICs first.

“If you want RON 95, show your IC. Have this paired with the National Registration Department database. This can also be used directly for targeted subsidies. Our ICs can be diversified, (and be used) not just as an identity card. We can put more importance in the chip.”

“This requires the cooperation of the government and all parties. Subsidies are our tax payer money, this is the time for us to fight for it. Defending the country’s production from being stolen even though we are not the enforcers. This is our duty as the people,” he explained.

What do you think? Should petrol stations require IC validation to allow RON 95 sales to disallow Singaporeans from utilising the petrol subsidies?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
