To satisfy your wanderlust, we’ve compiled some of the most underrated lookout points across Malaysia that offer the best views. From city landscapes to the boundless ocean and wavy mountains, there’s something for everyone! 

 

1. Pulau Perhentian Windmill, Terengganu

Pulau Perhentian is no stranger to fellow travellers in Malaysia. While the beautiful island is a popular spot for snorkelling and turtle observation, many still don’t know about its 500-step Windmill Staircase that leads to Blue Lagoon

After just a 30-minute hike from Long Beach, you’ll be rewarded with mesmerising views stretching across the South China Sea! If you love the view of the turquoise ocean melting into the skyline, this lookout point is definitely a must-visit.

2. Bukit Antarabangsa, Selangor

Be it picnicking or taking IG-worthy photos, Bukit Antarabangsa will never disappoint with its magical blend of greenery and city view! Other than light hiking, you can also reach the viewing point by cycling or motorbike. 

Love the golden sky scenery? Visit Bukit Antarabangsa in the evening to catch fascinating sunsets! Don’t forget to stay till late evening to admire the dazzling city lights from KL city centre.

3. Cape Rachado Lighthouse, Malacca

Perfect for those who need some “vitamin sea”, Cape Rachado Lighthouse offers fantastic views of the Malacca coastline. It takes just a 20-minute hike in the rainforest to reach the summit—don’t worry about the scorching sun, as the trails are shady! 

While you’re hiking, be sure to admire the greeny sceneries and wildlife. If you’re lucky, you can even spot the rare dusky leaf monkeys! Crystal blue sea views and diverse wildlife aside, the hilly cape also houses one of the oldest lighthouses in Malaysia.

4. Sinurambi Tambunan, Sabah

Deemed Switzerland of the East, Sinurambi Tambunan is known for its panoramic view of the Tambunan valley. It houses a 14-metre tower that mimics the shape of Wakid, a traditional bamboo basket used by the locals to carry crops. 

To reach the summit, you can either take a 45-minute hike or a 20-minute drive—no four-wheel drive needed! Being 877 metres above sea level, expect clear blue skies, fresh air, scenic paddy fields, and even a good view of Mount Kinabalu!

5. Peak of Bohey Dulang, Sabah

Other than lush greenery, the islands and blue sea in Sabah are also a must-see, especially when it comes to Bohey Dulang! This beautiful island is formed by the remnants of an ancient volcano.  

The 40-minute hike to the peak of Bohey Dulang can be a little challenging for beginners, but it’s definitely worth it. Watch mountainous islands nicely tucked in the turquoise sea as the ocean breeze caresses your cheeks!

6. Kalimantan View Point, Sarawak

Wanna admire the landscapes of our neighbouring country without crossing borders? You can do so with just a 30-minute walk or a 20-minute drive from Borneo Highland’s parking space! At the peak, you’ll be rewarded with the greenish landscape of Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Rest assured that the Kalimantan view is not the only reward! During your leisure hike, admire the exotic blossoms and stop by the gorgeous Simanggas Waterfall. The view of Swan Lake covered in waterlilies is also not to be missed!

7. Vista Point, Perak

No matter balik kampung or #CutiCutiMalaysia, long-distance drives can be daunting and exhausting. If you happen to pass by Ipoh along the way, you should definitely drop by Vista Point for a short break! 

This is where you can get a breath of fresh air after hours of driving. Take a breather as you watch the cars labouring along the highway, or admire the neighbouring hills and Ipoh city view from afar.

8. The Habitat Penang Hill, Penang

Adventurous and nature-loving Malaysians, look no further than The Habitat Penang Hill! This location features a 1.6km nature trail that stretches across the 130 million-year-old rainforest. Its Cruise Crest tree-top walk is also the highest viewing point on Penang Hill!

In addition to the scenic Penang island view, you can also expect tons of fun activities:

  • Langur Way Canopy Walk: Spanning 3 headlands and 2 valleys, this canopy gives you an up-close view of the dense rainforest! 
  • Sunset Walk: Catch the best sunsets in Penang and rare nocturnal creatures like Flying Lemur, Tarantulas, Penang Gecko and more! 
  • The Flight of the Colugo Zip: Admire the beauty of the jungle by gliding through 3 zip lines, 1 abseil, and 1 rope bridge!

9. Langkawi Sky Bridge, Kedah

Located at the peak of Gunung Mat Cincang, Langkawi Skybridge is 660 metres above sea level, offering breathtaking views of Langkawi island, the crystal-blue ocean, and the dense forest.  

In order to reach the viewing point, you should first take the Sky Cab to the Top Station, then transfer to the Sky Glide heading to the Sky Bridge. If you want to get active, take the 20-minute mountain track from the Top Station to the Sky Bridge instead!
