When you’re a public figure or organisation, it is often important to ensure that your reputation remains the way it is and is not tarnished by any unprofessionalism.

The Twitter account of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), also known as the Department of Broadcasting recently found itself facing a fair bit of backlash.

In a posting about a session they had with Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil where he had called up his mother to ask about the time she worked at RTM, a netizen commented under the post asking if they were forced to post the clip.

However, what the netizen probably didn’t expect was that RTM had responded to their comment.

In their response they wrote, “Ehh.. so random. No one was forced us to post it sister. But admin thinks that you were forced to comment.”

Where’s the professionalism

RTM’s response towards the netizen has since gone viral. Netizens condemned the public broadcasting organisation for their response as they claimed it was unprofessional.

“Our public official media is so rempit. Such a difference from the admin of BBC. Weak!”

“The official media channel for the government should display journalism that’s ethical, proper communication with the audience and most importantly, protect the integrity of the government. Shouldn’t speak in rempit slang,” said a user.

However, another user made an important point. “When RTM does this that is when the public will actually interact with RTM. If RTM tweet formally and lengthily, you guys wouldn’t interact. Good marketing nonetheless.”

RTM has yet to response to the comments criticising its response. What do you think of it? Is it really a big deal? Let us know in the comments.
