Following the massive criticisms of the horror flick, Pulau which is not even released yet, the Malaysian Film Censorship Board (LPF) finally responded this morning (January 19).

In a statement, LPF said that the content submitted for censorship is different than what’s shown in the trailer for Pulau. The organisation also clarified that they’re tasked with censorship for films and materials that are distributed to the public, except online.

Since the controversial trailer of Pulau was released online, LPF said that they have no jurisdiction over trailers that are released online.

“The trailer of Pulau was shown online, so it falls out of our jurisdiction.”

In the statement, LPF also assured that Pulau is a horror flick and not pornography as emphasised by some people. Regardless, LPF said that they’re always open to constructive views from the public for all films.

Last night, (January 18), the Minister of Communications & Digital, Fahmi Fadzil said that he has spoken to the media about the controversial trailer of the upcoming horror flick, which he believed is not suitable for viewing.

“However, the final decision lies in the hand of LPF,” Fahmi said.

The controversial trailer of Pulau has sparked fury among many Malaysians, and many believed it’s too inappropriate as the trailer features a couple of steamy scenes. Local preacher, PU Syed also voiced out against the release of the film.

Regardless, there are still no words on whether the film will be banned from release. Pulau is slated for a release in Malaysian theatres on March 9.

Do you think Pulau will eventually be released despite the major backlash?
