According to New Straits Times, last week, a police inspector was accused of allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in his office at a district police headquarters near Alor Setar, Kedah.

The teenage victim was at the police station to give her statement against her stepfather, who had allegedly raped her earlier.

The report stated that the 30-year-old inspector raped her during questioning at around 6:30pm last Wednesday (28 December).

He told her that he wanted to examine her private parts, supposedly as part of the investigation process and told the victim to spread her legs and then asked the girl to lie naked on a bed in the room where he then proceeded to rape her.

After 30 minutes, he then told the victim to put on her clothes but not before informing her that the investigation into her first rape claims was still ongoing and asked her to return for investigation.

On Saturday (31 December), the girl then lodged a report on the second rape.

According to Harian Metro, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer was detained, according to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

It was claimed that a forensics unit found traces of what is believed to be semen on the bedsheet and pillowcases at the inspector’s office, while conducting investigations.

No one is above the law

The case has gone viral and prompted comments by officials. One of which was Law and Institutional Reform Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said who assured that the case will be taken seriously and that no one is above the law.

In a Twitter post last night (January 2), Azalina said that she views this case seriously and wishes to emphasise that there are specific procedures for handling child victims.

“This includes the Evidence of Child Witness Act 2007 and the Comprehensive Guidelines on Conducting Sexual Crime Cases Against Children. No one is above the law.”

We hope that the victim gets the justice she deserves after all the investigations are complete.
