Just last week, a local preacher voiced out against the concert that was held in Bukit Jalil. During the weekend, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Idris Ahmad also weighed in about the upcoming concerts in Malaysia.

“Concerts shouldn’t have been organised. The existing entertainment is more than enough.”

In Idris’s Facebook post, he mentioned that the normalisation of this entertainment without limitation will only lead to more social issues. However, he assured the people that this does not imply that he is “anti-entertainment,” but he disagrees with any concerts or events that may open the doors for more social issues in the community.

“We’re in the transition into endemicity and fortunately, God has taken away the disease a little bit. But we’re celebrating with concerts, so that’s unfortunate.”

Idris also highlighted why concerts are unnecessary at times like these when people are struggling with the hike in prices, as the organisation of a concert involves a lot of money.

Another preacher weighed in

As the country is “healing” from the pandemic and more concert lineups for the rest of the year have been revealed, Idris is not the only one that speaks out against the necessity of the events. Another local preacher, Ustazah Asma’ Harun also made it clear that concerts should be banned.

In her lengthy Facebook post, she expressed her disappointment towards the concert culture that is doing well in our country, despite being “like a poison that kills the soul of our society.”

Asma’ was even more disappointed upon finding out that some youth were persistent enough to wait in line as early as 5am, about 15 hours before the concert began.

“Can’t we just enjoy and listen to the concert, Ustazah?”

She clarified that it’s not wrong to have some entertainment in life, but not when it causes:

  • Skipping prayers while waiting in line or attending concerts.
  • When men and women are seated or standing together in the crowds.

“When there’s demand, there’s supply, and this will make the organisers richer while the youth drown in more social issues.”

Asma’ also dubbed concerts as “immoral activities”, and expressed her concern as there are more concerts scheduled for the rest of this year.

“If the culture is not put to an end, this will lead to a cancerous normalisation.”

Billie Eilish’s concert last Thursday managed to put a smile on the faces of her fans. Regardless, do you agree that concerts are cancerous culture and do you think that attending concerts is too much entertainment?
