“Educators are the only people who lose sleep over other people’s kids” – Nicholas A. Ferroni

The job scope of a teacher is so much more than teaching the students. The pandemic also has not made the job any easier, in fact, it adds to the burden of fellow educators when classes have to be conducted online.

Unfortunately, not everyone seems to be grateful for the tireless efforts of a teacher.

Last week, Mohd Fadhli shared on his Facebook about the heartbreaking experience of a teacher who was scolded by a student. The student is only in Primary 6, and it is hard to believe that she’s capable of uttering vulgarities.

From the screenshots, the student was apparently unhappy due to the amount of homework that was given by her teacher.

“That’s it. I feel like quitting school! It’s like a month of workload!”

“I feel like this teacher is trying to make our heads explode! I’m so tired of this teacher, it’ll be good if i burn the school!”

Fadhli stated in his post that the screenshots made him tear up and he can imagine the feeling of the teacher as well. He also said that the efforts of the students are all that matters.

“The teachers are okay if you can’t manage to complete your homework. But at least try to do and ask questions if you are lost.”

He understood that sometimes students may have some constraints, but how big of a constraint could it be for a standard 6 student to feel burdened by homework?

For illustration purposes only.

“Your task is to just study. Get some rest or give yourself some space to play game or anything if you’re tired.”

Fadhli also urged parents to keep an eye on their children, especially their phones to monitor their conversations and manners with the teachers. It’s okay to be less smart, but not lack in manners. Being occupied is not an excuse to not monitor your children.

We are forever indebted to our teachers as they are part of the people who have shaped us into better individuals.
