While some of us may be frustrated over not being able to hang out and lepak with our friends due to the pandemic, for those who are a little less fortunate, hanging out with friends is nothing more than an afterthought when you have bigger issues to stress about.

To help those in need, Minah Restaurant has set up a food bank to support those who have been affected by the pandemic the most.

Minah Restaurant, founded in the 1950s, serves original Malay food in Gelugor, Penang. The family-owned business offers a large range of traditional dishes, from Curry Fish Head, Kerabu, Petai to Ulam and homemade Sambal Belacan.

But when it comes to helping those in need, serving good food just isn’t good enough. So that’s why Minah Restaurant started its very own mini food bank for struggling locals nearby.

Speaking with WORLD OF BUZZ, 3rd generation owner Muhammad Noor Bin Abu Bakar explains that for many, the pandemic has affected their ability to get food on the table after having lost their jobs: “Since March my food business is not doing well because of this Covid-19, but still we can eat. But for some unfortunate people, they can’t.”

“I started this in May 2020 nearing Raya Puasa so that I can help in any way we can. I can’t even describe my feelings as to how this affects others, especially old people, single mothers and OKU.”

The food bank provides basic and important kitchen dry food and anyone is welcome to take what they need. But the foodbank isn’t just for people to take food, either. For those who wish to lend their support, Minah Restaurant also welcomes people to contribute what they can.

“We started it, and now we receive all help from others as well. In my area, many of them are thankful. I’ve received a lot of emails and WhatsApp messages telling me that it’s a good approach.”

We thank Minah Restaurant for their generosity and selflessness in helping those in need!
