Budget 2021: Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The BPR Initiative

Minister of Finance Malaysia, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz announced the new initiative, the Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) program, in a move to help the community through what he describes as an unprecedented pandemic, which is the Covid-19 virus, today at the presentation of Budget 2021 to parliament.

BPR will be replacing and increasing the amount allocated based on the previous program known as the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) initiative.

The BPR categories are as follows: 

Households with one child, earning less than RM2,500 will receive RM1,200.
Households with two children or more, earning less than RM2,500 will receive RM1,800.

Households with one child, earning RM2,501 to RM4,000 will receive RM800.
Households with two children or more, earning RM2,501 to RM4,000 will receive RM1,200.

Households with one child, earning RM4,001 to RM5,000 will receive RM500.
Households with two children or more, earning RM4,001 to RM5,000 will receive RM750.

Unmarried individual earning less than RM2,500 will receive RM350. The age limit for unmarried individuals have been lowered to 21-years-old.

He shared that the initiative will benefit a good 8.1 million Malaysians, with an allocation of RM6.5 billion, compared to last years initiative with benefited 4.3 million Malaysians with an allocation of RM5 billion.
